Jalandhar: Launching a massive operation in flood-hit areas of Punjab, the Army on Monday rescued more than 500 families and moved them to safer places. Army columns of Vajra Corps located at Jalandhar, Ferozepur and Kapurthala have been dispatched to the affected areas, an official release said. Thirty three motorboats and 22 medical teams were pressed into service by the army which has in the last 72 hours rescued 1800 marooned people to safer places. Around fifty thousand sandbags have been utilised to prevent further breaching of rivers in the State.
