Fee structure cases posted for final hearing

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court posted for Monday the final hearing of 126 cases, filed by managements of private professional colleges and students of medicine, dentistry and engineering, challenging the fee structure for professional courses.
While some of the petitions were filed in 2006, the rest were filed in 2007 and 2008. While the managements had challenged the fee structure, saying that it was too low, students had said that the fees was on the higher side.
The students have all along maintained hat they are willing to pay the fee fixed by then Fee Fixation Committee.
When the matter came up, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice V. Gopala Gowda, orally informed the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and the State Government that Supreme Court rulings and directions on the fee structure is binding.
Adjourned
A Division Bench adjourned to Wednesday a petition by Paramahamsa Foundation, which runs the AMC College on Bannerghatta Road, seeking permission to fill up 50 per cent of seats in M. Tech courses.
The Bench asked the Government advocate to ascertain facts.
