No stopping del Potro

WASHINGTON: Argentine Juan Martin del Potro beat Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-3, 6-3 to win the ATP event in Washington on Sunday and claim his fourth straight title.

The second seed rallied from an early break down in the opening set to make it back-to-back hard-court titles and take his winning streak to 19 matches.

In his first ATP Tour final, Troicki led 3-1 in the first set but del Potro, the winner in Stuttgart, Kitzbuehel and Los Angeles, hit back to win five straight games for the set.

Tough start

The Argentine was not quite at his best but after a tough start to the second set, he broke in the eighth game and served out for victory, clinching it on his fourth match point

Petrova wins

At Cincinnati, Russia’s Nadia Petrova dominated Nathalie Dechy 6-2, 6-1 in the final of the $175,000 WTA Western and Southern Financial Group Open for her first title of 2008.

Petrova hopes to carry the momentum over from Cincinnati into the final major championship of the year — the U.S Open — which begins next week. There were signs Petrova was closing in on her first title of the year after the Russian reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

The results: At Washington DC (Legg Mason Classic): Final: Juan Martin del Potro beat Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-3, 6-3.

At Cincinatti (Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open: Final: Nadia Petrova bt Nathalie Dechy 6-2, 6-1.
