Dambulla: India’s chances of fighting back from the eight-wicket defeat it suffered in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Monday were dealt a severe blow with the news that Virender Sehwag will play no further part in the series. Sehwag who missed Monday’s match after twisting his left ankle during practice on Sunday, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour. Indian manager Sanjay Desai confirmed on Monday that Sehwag will return home. “He was the batsman who was in top form,” said Indian captain M.S. Dhoni of the batsman whose 344 runs in the Test series were the highest for either side. “But that’s the way it is. You can’t really think about the guys you are missing. Instead, you must fill that space. That’s the only way the team can win.”— Special Correspondent
