North Zone retains trophy

VISAKHAPATNAM: North Zone retained the Irwin’s Boatyard Trophy, defeating South Zone by an innings and 62 runs in the last round-robin match of the tournament at Kakinada on Sunday.

Both North and Central beat South and tied for the top spot. However, better run-quotient, 2.18 to 1.78, helped North to clinch the title.

The scores: South Zone 87 and 142 in 51.2 overs (Gayaz 64, A. Veera Babu four for 29, K. Bharat Reddy four for 40) lost to North Zone 291.

All-round show by Dinesh

P. Dinesh turned out an excellent allround show, picking up six wickets with his leg-spin and then scored a half-century, in Srikakulam’s eight-wicket win over Vizianagaram in the round-robin match of the ACA North Zone under-16 inter-district one-day cricket tournament at Vizianagaram on Monday.

The scores: Vizianagaram 95 for nine in 43 overs (G. Vijay Deep 32, P. Dinesh six for 27) lost to Srikakulam 96 for two in 28 overs (P. Dinesh 56).
