VISAKHAPATNAM: In a daylight burglary, thieves struck at a house at Gopalapatnam and decamped with 11 tolas of gold ornaments on Monday. K. Subrahmanyam, an employee of Naval Dockyard, is staying with his wife Lakshmi at Chandranagar. On Monday, Lakshmi locked the house and went to the market around. She returned at 1.30 p.m. to find the lock on the main door open and on going inside found the almyrah ransacked. The Gopalapatnam police are investigating the case. GVMC driver heldA driver of the GVMC was taken into custody for allegedly causing an accident in an inebriated condition at Thatichetlapalem on Monday. Tipper driver K. Sanyasi Rao first hit an autorickshaw and then a motorcyclist at the junction as they were awaiting the signal to turn green. Two of the occupants of the autorickshaw were injured and the motorcyclist sustained multiple fractures. Luckily, he was wearing a helmet and that saved him from death. On getting information, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) P. Viswa Prasad directed the Fourth Town (traffic) SI B. Nageswara Rao to rush to the spot with an alcometer. It was found that the accused was fully drunk. The reading showed the alcohol in his blood was 316 ml a litre as against the maximum permissible limit of 20 ml a litre.
