COIMBATORE: Talks regarding revision of wages for the job working powerloom unit owners in the district will continue here on Friday, according to Minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Pongalur N. Palanisamy. The job working powerloom units are on strike since Saturday. Pointing out that production costs had gone up, the job working unit owners are demanding a 100 per cent increase in wages from the textile manufacturers. The previous wage revision was in 2005.The district has about two lakh powerlooms. SlowdownThe Minister and District Collector V. Palanikumar continued talks with the textile manufacturers, job working powerloom unit owners and union representatives for the second day on Monday. The textile manufacturers contended that with a slowdown in the market it would not be possible to increase the wages now. With no settlement reached on Monday, it was decided to continue the talks on Friday, he said.
