Balshree awardee Srinithi’s Tamil vocal concert leaves music-lovers spellbound
CAPTIVATING: P. Srinithi performing at Tamil Sangam in Tiruchi on Sunday. — TIRUCHI: A successful maiden performance and that too in Tamil music was what made the rendering of P. Srinithi, a XI standard student of Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Srirangam, unique for music-lovers of the city. At the 41st monthly music programme organised by the Tamil Isai Sangam at the Tamil Sangam premises on Sunday, Srinithi, who is quite at home with Carnatic performance, captivated a holiday audience with her enthralling Tamil songs and kritis. Many, in fact, were not prepared to believe it was a maiden performance. A national ‘Balshree’ awardee, Srinithi commenced her 90-minute programme with the song ‘Aranga un tiruvadi’ composed by her master Ambujam Vedantham. She went on to render the songs composed by doyens like Oothukkadu Venkata Subbiar, Papanasam Sivan, Bharathidasan and others with precision, much to the delight of every one. The song of the concert was ‘Chidambaram yena manam magizhntida’ in which she performed an excellent ‘thaniavarthanam’, mellifluous ‘naravaram’ and melodious ‘swaram’. The concert came to an apt end with an invocation ‘Vazhtirunamam’ in glory of both Sri Perumal and Sri Thaayar. Senior Manager of Srirangam branch of the State Bank of India S. Ramasami inaugurated the programme and Latha Anand felicitated her.
