A FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL: State Bank of Mysore employees protesting against merger moves of the State Bank group in Bangalore on Monday. Bangalore: Nearly 6,000 officers of the State Bank of India (SBI) Group in the State participated in the nationwide strike on Monday called by the All India State Bank of India Officers’ Federation and the Associate Banks’ Officers’ Association. They were protesting against the recent merger of the State Bank of Saursahtra with the SBI. Nearly all work came to a standstill in SBI and its seven associates. Officers of the group participated in a demonstration held in front of the State Bank of Mysore Head Office, K.G. Road. The leaders of other trade unions of banks addressed the rally. The strike was “100 per cent successful,” said G.D. Nadaf, general secretary of All India State Bank of India Officers’ Federation. ATMs of the banks in Bangalore delivered only paper slips with the message “unable to process request” instead of money. K. Raju, a resident of Yelahanka New Town, said the bank managements should have taken appropriate measures to load money when they were aware of the strike.
