CHENNAI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (Southern Region) will honour five outstanding entrepreneurs for their contribution to Information and Communication Technology during ‘Connect 2008,’ which will be held at Chennai Trade Centre from September 11 to 13.

Talking to reporters on Monday, CII Tamil Nadu State Council immediate past president and Connect 2008 convenor Gopal Srinivasan said India’s eighth premier ICT event would be inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja will be the guest of honour.

Aerospace Industries Association president and CEO John Douglas will deliver the keynote address

An announcement about Chennai Aero Park, distribution of export performance award for 2008, virtual launch of the ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu and distribution of e-governance award for 2008 will mark the launch of ‘Connect 2008.’

‘Global competitiveness and equitable growth-driven by innovation’ will be the theme.

Mr. Srinivasan said nominations were being invited from successful individuals for five awards to be distributed in four categories: the CII Connect Award for ICT impact in Tamil Nadu; the CII Connect Award for the global impact influenced by Tamil Nadu; the ICT support ecosystem award; and the lifetime achievement award.

Two entrepreneurs will be honoured under the ICT impact award category: a person from Tamil Nadu who has succeeded in Tamil Nadu and one from outside Tamil Nadu who has succeeded in Tamil Nadu.

A person from Tamil Nadu who has succeeded outside India will be honoured under the global impact category.

“Successful individuals interested in participating in this award can send in their details either by post or e-mail.

“They could also be nominated by others. One can nominate as many persons as possible. August 30 is the last date for receiving nominations,” Mr. Srinivasan said.

Alongside Connect 2008, the conferences of Computer Society of India and Taitronics have been planned.
