‘Public-private partnership important’

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Cherian Samuel, an economist attached to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), has stressed the importance of public-private participation in the development process of the State.

Dr. Samuel was delivering the 12th annual lecture on ‘Promise of Development Evaluation,’ organised by the Department of Economics of Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla, on Tuesday.

According to him, an evaluation of development programmes had much significance as many of the proposal submitted by third world countries to various international agencies were often found not feasible. Dr. Samuel said that the IFC followed a composite index consisting of components like input, output, physical achievements and environmental issues for evaluation.

M.O. Koshy, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University, presided the function. K.T. Philip, college principal; Abraham George, Cherian Varghese and Susan Sheela Jacob, academics, also spoke.
