THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala and Venezuela plans to collaborate in the development of information technology. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Venezuela’s Minister for State for Popular Power for the Telecommunications and Informatics Layla Macc Adan held discussions in this regard here on Tuesday. The Venezuelan Minister sought technical support of Kerala in developing institutions similar to Technopark in Venezuela. The Chief Minister said that State had trained manpower to be sent to Venezuela, if required. He also invited a Venezuelan delegation to visit Kerala in December to attend the inauguration of the International Centre for Free Software here. The Chief Minister later told journalists that Kerala and Venezuela would collaborate in the area of free software. Ms. Adan said that the Venezuelan government had been progressively introducing free software in government departments and public sector companies during the past two years. President of the Venezuelan National Centre for Information Technology Carlos Figueira told The Hindu that a decree required government departments in Venezuela to give priority to open software and open standards in e-governance. He said that the delegation would be going to Delhi on Wednesday for discussions with the National Informatics Centre and the Indian Institute of Technology.
