‘Congress not serious on regularisation, housing’

Staff Reporter

“Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna also a farce committed on the people”

NEW DELHI: Charging that issue of provisional certificates to unauthorised colonies was nothing but a political gimmick, BJP national general secretary Vijay Goel has convened a “mahapanchayat” of the Anadhikrit Colony Mahasangh Sangharsh Samiti at Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday to expose the Delhi Government’s stance on the issue.

‘False promises’

Mr. Goel said on Tuesday the Congress governments in Delhi and the Centre were playing with the lives of the people residing in these colonies by making false promises. He questioned if there was a provision in the Constitution that provided for issue of such temporary certifications and wondered if these pieces of paper would protect people from sealing and demolition and provide them loans on their properties.

Likewise, the BJP leader charged that the Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna was also a farce being committed on the people.

While the Delhi Government had promised to construct 1 lakh houses per year under the scheme, it was now offering just 10,000 houses to over 18 lakh applicants and that too when its term was coming to an end.

He said the residents of jhuggi clusters were only being fooled by the Government.

As for the Centre, he again alleged that the Congress-led Government there too had failed in living up to the expectations of the people. While lakhs of people still do not have a house of their own in Delhi, the Centre has come out with a Delhi Development Authority housing scheme in which only about 5,000 flats are being offered.
