Aluva: Two former Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists picked up by the police on Monday are still being questioned, according to sources. Abdul Rahim of Uliyanoor and Ashraf of Vedimara were picked up from Veliyathnadu, near here, based on their past links with the SIMI. Rehman had been reportedly taking part in the activities of ‘Darul Quran,’ a charitable society which distributes scholarships to students in Ernakulam, sources in the police said. The antecedents of the duo were being checked and their computer hard discs being verified in their presence. A meeting of Deputy Superintendents of Police (rural) was convened by Police Superintendent M. Padmanabhan on Tuesday to discuss intensifying of combing operations in the area. — PTI
