VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI (M) district committee in an interaction during its ‘praja chaitanya yatra’ with beneficiaries of ‘Indiramma’ from July 20 to August 2 in 700 villages of 20 mandals and four municipalities in the district noticed that the eligible poor were not benefited by the housing programme. Those who built houses became bankrupt and landless as the banks had not released Rs. 20,000 in rural and Rs. 30,000 in urban areas. However, the scheme benefited the Congress workers as they received bills for the houses they built some time ago by displaying photograph of Indira Gandhi on the houses besides commissions from the poor beneficiaries, alleged M. Krishna Murty, the party district secretary. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, he said that a letter from each mandal would be sent to Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana by August 25 demanding a detailed survey on the irregularities. He recalled the minister’s denial on irregularities in the scheme last year.
