Durban: Mahatma Gandhi’s grand-daughter has backed the revival of Natal Indian Congress (NIC) or a similar organisation on the same lines to be the “voice” of Indian-origin people in South Africa. Ms. Ela Gandhi, a former MP of the ruling ANC, said she supported activist Fatima Meer’s call for reviving NIC and the South African Indian Congress because people of Indian origin have no authentic organisation to represent them. “While you and I regard ourselves as South Africans, there are others who feel they are being categorised according to race when it comes to jobs, etc ,” she said.— PTI
