East Bengal vs Sporting match abandoned

KOLKATA: The Calcutta Football League’s premier division encounter between title aspirants East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting was abandoned after heavy rains made the turf of the Salt Lake Stadium here unplayable on Tuedsay.

The encounter saw the two sides locked goalless in the 32 minutes of action possible before the match was called off.

The players of both sides appealed to the referee to stop the match saying the ground conditions had become unsafe owing to persistent rains.

The match will be replayed at a later date. – Principal Correspondent
