Bid to rob transport firm staff foiled

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Thanks to the guts shown by the employees of a transport company, a major robbery attempt in the city was foiled on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at Jagatpur Square where some people came forward to help the victims and overpower one of the looters.

According to police, two employees of a local transport company were returning to their office after withdrawing an amount of Rs 5 lakh from the local branch of Urban Cooperative Bank when they were attacked by three unidentified persons with revolvers and other lethal weapons in front of the bank.

Gathering courage, Smruti Prakash Laha of Sri Transport Company, who was holding the bag containing cash gave a brave fight matching the might of the looters.

Seeing the valiant act of Laha, passersby on the road came to his rescue by overpowering the assailant.

The attacker was later handed over to the police while the remaining two ran away from the spot.
