KORAPUT: Arjun Khilo, secretary of the Maliparvat Surakhya Samiti of Semiliguda in Koraput district, has demanded a high-level enquiry into sanction of lease of 268.110 hectares in Maliparvat region to Hindalco in haste for mining bauxite. While the company was given lease in November last year, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) recently wrote a letter to the district Collector urging him to stop any work in the area before his office gave the clearance. In its letter, the DFO’s office had informed the mining section in the district collector’s office that before taking up works in Aligaon, Kankadamba and Sorisopadar villages of Pottangi tehesil, necessary forest clearance should have been taken as per the Forest (conservation) Act1980. The DFO, further asked the mining section officials to submit connected maps and records for verification of the land. He also directed the forest ranger of Semiliguda to inspect the area as per the land schedule.
