Best College award to be announced

CHENNAI: The 200-odd government and aided colleges in the State are in the fray for the Best College award to be announced on September 1 by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
The award will be based on performance of the colleges, said Higher Education Secretary K. Ganesan. The academic record of students, infrastructure facilities and the number and quality of teaching faculty would be taken into account by the judging committee headed by Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education vice-chairman A. Ramasamy. A shortlist of colleges had been submitted.
A Best Scholar award will also be presented to a college teacher based on the number of publications, number of Ph.D students guided, and other such criteria, said Mr. Ganesan.
The Chief Minister will present these awards while inaugurating the six new government engineering colleges at Anna University. He will lay the foundation for the State Open University campus coming up at Saidapet, said Mr. Ganesan.
