Cut in IT jobs may hit engg. colleges

HYDERABAD: The economic slowdown leading to job cuts in the software industry is likely to affect the “B” and “C” grade engineering colleges. However, top colleges, particularly university engineering colleges are not worried over placements.

Indications are that major recruiters have already hinted to several colleges that they would not be visiting for placements this year.

Even if some companies are willing to visit, they are either reducing the intake or rejecting candidates citing some reason or other. “This year will be particularly hard for colleges not well-known for their quality of education and good candidates,” admitted a professor looking after placements in a college.
