Shyam Minotra dead

NEW DELHI: Former Davis Cupper Shyam Minotra breathed his last here on Tuesday after prolonged illness, according to the All India Tennis Association. He was 62.

Minotra was a top player in the country in the late 60s and 70s. At the peak of his career, he and S.P. Misra won the Asian Championship in 1970 and along with Jaideep Mukerjea bagged the Asian Games doubles bronze in 1978. He also defeated Ille Nastase of Romania.
