PATNA: Accepting the Janata Dal (United)’s hit-below-the-belt politics, the RJD on Wednesday countered questioning the appointments made by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his two tenures as Railway Minister. Three senior RJD leaders Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Shyam Razak and Nihora Prasad Yadav released what they described as the first of the 25-episode charge sheet against Mr. Kumar angered by the allegedly false accusations levelled against their party chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad that he had procured land in favour of a job in the Railways. “We have rebutted their false accusations with facts and figures and that the registration of pieces of land was genuine and that no jobs were given in return. Mr. Kumar should now come out clean and answer our queries,” they said. The RJD charged that Mr. Kumar during his tenures as Railway Minister during 1998 to 1999 and 2001 and 2004 had made 231 appointments in Group D without inviting applications through advertisements and interviews. They charged that a scrutiny revealed that people belonging to a particular class and mostly belonging to the Mr. Kumar’s native district Nalanda had been showered with the favour. “Mr. Kumar should tell us what consideration and transactions accounted the appointments. It was imperative of a man claiming his image to be clean to publicly state his brief otherwise the action would always be under suspicion.” Mr. Khan charged that not a single Muslim had been appointed by Mr. Kumar during his first tenure which lasted about 17 months under the NDA government.
