Patna: Security has been beefed up across Bihar for Wednesday’s State-wide bandh called by the Left parties and the All-India strike by eight major trade unions to protest against a host of issues including price rise. Police stations have been alerted to ensure peace during the six-hour bandh starting from 10 a.m. and the general strike called by the trade unions, State police headquarter sources said. Patrolling has been intensified along the railway tracks, often a soft target for the agitators, and additional security personnel have been deployed to protect vital installations like railway stations, airports and bus terminals, the sources said. The bandh has been called by CPI, CPI (M), Forward Bloc, RSP and Bhartiya Janwadi Forward Bloc to protest against inflation, ‘irregularities’ in preparation of BPL list, black marketing of ration and kerosene meant for sale through PDS outlets, government’s ‘failure’ to tackle the crisis facing the agricultural sector and water-logging in the State Capital. The bandh coincides with the nation-wide strike called by trade unions to protest among other things rising prices of essential commodities and ‘anti-labour’ laws. The CPI-ML (Liberation), which has decided not to join the bandh, is supporting the strike called by the trade unions. Its activists, according to a party release, would court arrest across the State to highlight the alleged failure of the Nitish Kumar Government. -- PTI
