MADURAI: College teachers affiliated to All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AFUCTO) will participate in the nationwide strike on August 20, pressing their various demands. Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association will join the all-India strike, according to S. Vivekanandan, general secretary, MUTA. In a statement, he said that the demands include stopping of Private Universities Bill, opposition to recruitment through contract service/outsourcing, filling up of vacancies on time-scale basis and strict implementation of labour laws related to working hours and minimum wages along with social security measures.About 3,000 college teachers in southern districts, who are members of MUTA, would take part in the strike.
