A.P. producing 80 million units of power per day Consumption in the State is 196 million units NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to allot Thadicherla coal block II, in Karimnagar and Warangal districts to the State to meet the growing coal demand for the existing and new thermal power stations. This and some other coal blocks in other States might be allotted to the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC), he said in a memorandum submitted to Dr. Singh, who is also in-charge of Coal Ministry. Though AP was producing 80 million units of power per day, the consumption was 196 million units. Despite drawing power from various power generating stations, private producers and the national grid, the State was forced to resort to load shedding to manage a deficit of 22 million units. He sought the Prime Minister’s intervention for loading a minimum of eight railway rakes of coal everyday from Mahanadi Coal Fields (Orissa) to Vijayawada Thermal Power Station which is facing generation loss. The plant received only 18.30 lakh tonnes of coal during April-July this year from Mahanadi against the linkage of 25.50 lakh tonnes. Sattupally unitDr. Reddy sought coal linkage of 3.25 million tonnes per annum to the upcoming 600 MW thermal power station at Sattupally in Khammam district from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited. The company had given its consent, he said and urged the Prime Minister to do the needful to facilitate commissioning the power plant in the 11th Plan.
