Today’s events to mark ‘Madras Week’ festivities

CHENNAI: The following programmes are being organised on Wednesday as part of ‘Madras Week’ celebrations in the city.

Heritage Talks

Kritis and Symphonies on Madras – music accompanied by commentary – Anil Srinivasan, Hotel Taj Coromandel, 6.30 p.m.

M.R. Radha – Nooravadu Andu Anjali (A centenary tribute to M.R. Radha) – Mohan Raman, Avvai Kalai Kazhagam, 15/9, Somu Chetty 4th Lane, Royapuram, 6.30 p.m.

IT Revolution and Beyond – Chennai in the 21st Century - Kiruba Shankar on the effects of new media at Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar, 6.30 p.m.

Indo-Saracenic Architecture of Madras during the British period – George J. Jeyaraj, New College Institute of Management auditorium, Peters Road, 4 p.m.

Exhibitions

‘A Peep into Chennai that was Madras’ at Asan Memorial School, Anderson Road, 10.30 a.m. onwards.

Mylapore – A special photo exhibition by the Chennai Photowalkers, at Vanilla Children Place, 8/57, 1st Street, Luz Avenue, Mylapore, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early Portraits of Madras – Etchings, Engravings and Aquatints from the private collection of V. Narayan Swami, The Art Gallery, C.P. Art Centre, Eldams Road, Alwarpet from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Madras and the Independence Movement, at Roja Muthiah Research Library, Taramani, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Madras: Impressions from 18th to 20th Century - A drawing and painting exhibition by art director P. Krishnamoorthy at Gallery Sri Parvati, Eldams Road, from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Early Imprints of the Madras Region: a presentation by G. Sundar, Director, Roja Muthiah Research Library, at Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar, 6.30 p.m.

Colonial India in the photographs of Wiele and Klein, organised by Goethe Institute, at Hotel Taj Connemara, 10 a.m. onwards.

Old Madras – Live demo of food, clothes, lifestyle, dance, music, at Asan Memorial School, Anderson Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Spoken word - Poetry reading sessions co-ordinated by Sharanya Manivannan, Vanilla Children Place, 8/57, 1st Street, Luz Avenue, Mylapore. 8 p.m.
