Heated exchanges mark meeting

Take it easy: MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi pacifying his brother and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi at the district review committee meeting on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: Heated exchange of words between CPI (M) Rajya Sabha Member P. Madhu and MIM representatives apart from arguments over protocol caused acrimony at the Hyderabad DDRC meeting here on Tuesday.

During the course of a discussion, MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi took objection to certain remarks of Mr. Madhu that the old city did not get adequate relief during recent rains. MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi angrily retorted that old city was a far better place and there was no need for the CPI (M) leader to make comments on it. Other MIM members Afsar Khan and Mouzzam Khan too were seen shouting at Mr. Madhu angrily. The DDRC Chairman, Ali Mohd. Shabbir, tried in vain to pacify both the groups but arguments continued for some time.

Earlier, MLC K. Nageshwar asked why he was not invited to the meeting. Mr. Shabbir explained that since he had adopted Medchal as his constituency which falls in Ranga Reddy district he might not have been sent an invitation. There were some light moments too when MLC P.V. Ranga Rao said the city during recent rains reminded one of Venice.

“There were boats out to ferry people and I was really amused at that,” he said referring to Nadeem colony episode. The scare created due to water reaching FTL in Hussain Sagar also figured and he disclosed that he ended up spending few days in a hotel.

The Congress MP, V. Hanumantha Rao, criticised the haphazard construction of apartments without proper infrastructure in place and squarely blamed the civic officials for encroachments.
