Product will be available from September Pre-booking scheme starts from Wednesday
SPECIAL TO INDIA: Devinder Kishore, Director, Marketing, Nokia India, unveiling Nokia N96 in New Delhi on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: World’s largest mobile manufacturer Nokia on Tuesday unveiled its latest convergence device from its ‘Nseries’ stable, N96, that has been optimised for unhindered web access and entertainment. To be available from the first week of September in India, N96 will offer memory size of 16GB that is expandable to 24GB through an external micro SD card. “We have announced a pre-booking scheme that would start from Wednesday at our 2,000 Nokia outlets across the country,” said Devinder Kishore, Director-Marketing, Nokia India, at a press conference here. “The massive 24GB memory allows you to store up to 18,000 songs, up to 20,000 images at 5 mega pixel, up to 60 hours of video or 20 full-length movies. With multifunctional media keys and a 2.8 inch screen, music, movies, games and more are available at the touch of a button,” he added. N96 also comes preloaded with ‘Wave Secure’ security application that allows consumers not just to track their handset in the event it is lost or stolen, but also create a back-up for the phone data through the Internet. This is an application being offered exclusively to consumers in India, he said. Though Mr. Kishore did not reveal its price, it is likely to be priced around Rs. 30,000. “Nokia’s range of multi-function, converged devices clearly demonstrates that convergence is no longer an industry buzzword — it is a reality for consumers and business users today. In 2007, the Nokia N95 became an icon for convergence of Internet and mobility. Today, in the Web 2.0 Era, the new Nokia N96 places the power to shape the Internet in your hands, in addition to being to the ultimate entertainment gadget,” said Mr. Kishore. The Nokia N96 supports the Ovi family of Nokia Internet services, including maps, entertainment and media sharing. Users can also explore the world through navigation and the Nokia Maps 2.0 application. The phone is equipped with a 5 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, a dual LED flash and video light. It allows DVD-like quality video capture at 30 frames per second.
