DDU doctors on strike

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Resident doctors at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital went on a strike on Tuesday adversely affecting routine out-patient department services at the hospital.

Trouble erupted after a 78-year-old man who was brought to the hospital with food poising on Monday night died on Tuesday morning.

Angry relatives allegedly beat up the on-duty doctor, nurse and paramedical staff.

Over 300 doctors who proceeded on strike have now demanded additional security at the hospital stating that they cannot work under such circumstances.

Hospital Medical Superintendent Avneendra Prasad said: “Trouble started when the relatives of a patient who died at the hospital beat up the on-duty medical staff. The resident doctors proceeded on strike stating that they would come back to work only if additional security was provided. ”

“We have registered an FIR at the Hari Nagar police station against those who beat up the medical staff.” added Dr. Prasad.
