It remained closed to traffic since June 24 following a breach NEW DELHI: After remaining closed to traffic coming from Uttam Nagar and going towards Tilak Nagar since June 24 following a breach, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has ordered re-opening of the Janakpuri flyover to traffic with effect from Thursday. The decision was announced at a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee on Tuesday. The flyover situated near the Janakpuri District Centre in West Delhi had developed a breach of about 2x2 feet and a chunk of the flyover had fallen off exposing a mesh of iron bars and rendering it unsafe for traffic movement. The flyover had been built by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation which constructed the flyover in 2002. Civic officials had said that the UPSBC was responsible for its repair and maintenance till 2012 under the 10-year-defect-liability period”. MCD commissioner K S Mehra had also ordered an inquiry into the incident after approaching the Central Road Research Institute and the Indian Institute of Technology to probe the matter.
