Report on new airport in a day or two

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Officials of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry led by Secretary Ashok Chawla held a meeting here on Tuesday to formulate the report to be placed before the Karnataka High Court regarding issues related to the Bengaluru International Airport. Though the meeting did not take any specific decision, the sources said that the report to be submitted to the court was likely to be finalised in a day or two and a framework in this regard had been discussed.

“We have to take a decision keeping in mind public interest and the concession agreement signed with the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) by the State and Union Governments,” said an official of the ministry who attended the meeting.

The officials said the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which had studied the technical capabilities of both the airports, had submitted its report in the form of technical data. The meeting is said to have taken into consideration the decision of the State Government to study the facilities at the new airport by forming a House Committee comprising members of the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.
