THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A ‘green’ initiative of the Technopark-based IT firm UST Global, under which 2008 saplings would be planted across the state, was launched here on Wednesday by the Forest Minister Benoy Viswom. Each year the company holds the UST Global Green Day initiatives during which saplings are donated to institutions in association with the Department of Forests. With the donation of 2008 saplings this year the total number of trees thus planted in the state would rise to 6,000. In South India the company has been responsible for the planting of close to 8,000 saplings, a press note issued here said. The second eco-initiative that would be launched by the company this year is the formation of ‘Prakriti’ Nature Clubs in colleges in the State. This move aims at creating an eco-awareness among students. UST Global was recently recognised as one of the top 10 ‘Green Outsourcers’ in the world. According to Alexander Verghese UST’s centre head at Thiruvananthapuram, “in 2008 UST global takes pride in its effort to make Kerala a cleaner and greener State.”
