Rangasamy administers ‘Sadbhavana Day’ pledge

PUDUCHERRY: Floral tributes, inter-religious prayers and rallies to promote communal harmony marked the celebrations of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Puducherry on Wednesday.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy administered the ‘Sadbhavana Day’ pledge to Ministers, legislators and officials at a function organised at the Rajiv Gandhi square.

He also administered the “renewable energy pledge” to the people at a function held by the Renewable Energy Agency.

The day was observed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy as ‘Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Day.’

Speaker R. Radhakrishnan, Minister for Industries and Power V. Vaithilingam, Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy, Lok Sabha member M. Ramadass, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president A.V. Subramanian and Chief Whip A. Angalan participated in the function.

Mr. Rangasamy, Mr. Vaithilingam and Mr. Kandasamy garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi. Floral tributes were paid to the late leader in a function held at the Pradesh Congress Committee office. Congress functionaries and activists of its front organisations participated.

Activists of the Mahila Congress participated in a vehicle rally along Kamarajar Salai, Jawaharlal Nehru Street, Mission Street, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Anna Salai, Maraimalai Adigal Salai and Villianur main road before reaching the Rajiv Gandhi square on the 100 Feet Road to stress the need for promoting caste and communal harmony.

Vice-president of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) K. Lakshminarayanan and party MLA N. Anandu, along with party activists, garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi.
