BHUBANESWAR: Providing professional orientation towards acting in theatre, Ranga Bharati, a 20-day State-level workshop is currently underway in the city being organised by the city-based 28-year-old Uttar Purush theatre organisation. “Our thrust has been on a holistic approach towards acting. In this workshop, participants would not only hone their skill in acting, they will be made aware of various aspects of theatre that would help them to broaden their mental horizon. Thus we have invited experts from the field of cinema, dance, music, rhythm and even stage craft,” elaborated workshop coordinator Abhinna Routray. Noted theatre director and actor Surya Mohanty, a proud product of the National School of Drama, has been roped in to conduct the workshop that has 20 participants from across the State, informed Routray. National award winner film directors Himansu Khatua and Subas Das, both products of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of Pune, versatile musician Dibakar Mohanty and Chhau dance exponent Subrat Das are among the experts who are guiding the participants, he added. Different theatre organisations of the State have sent their participants for the workshop. A research scholar on theatre from Berhampur University and a television programme producer have also joined it, it was learnt. Culture director Rabi Narayan Nanda, who inaugurated this intensive workshop, admitted that theatre in Orissa deserves special attention for its revival and promotion while workshop director Surya Mohanty observed that theatre and cinema actors in Orissa badly require professional training to stay at par with the national scenario. Among others, eminent theatre personalities Asim Basu and Ramesh Mohanty were present during the inaugural session.
