PANAJI: Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik expressed apprehension in the Assembly on Tuesday that Goa may witness a spurt in beggar menace once the new train between Patna and Goa starts operating. He was replying to a question from Opposition BJP MLAs over the problem of beggary in the coastal State. Mr. Naik said that Goa was taking good care of its poor people and as such, no local people were taking to begging. Hordes of beggars were coming to Goa from other States by trains and other modes of transport and indulging in begging, he said. BJP MLA Dayanand Mandrekar said that the menace was spreading because of the nexus between them and the “corrupt” tourist police deployed on beaches.
