‘Govt. cheating residents on regularisation’

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Representatives of the residents’ welfare associations of unauthorised colonies in the Capital on Wednesday decided to hold a rally at the Ramlila Grounds here on August 31 to protest against the State Government’s alleged attempt to mislead them on the issue of regularisation of over 1,500 colonies.

At a mahapanchayat held in the presence of former Union Minister Vijay Goel, the representatives alleged that the Delhi Government had been cheating them and that it had no intentions of regularising the colonies.

‘No certificates’

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Goel said the people were angry that the State Government had not given provisional certificates as promised but had simply handed out slips to them that were of little worth. “If the Government really wants to regularise the unauthorised colonies, it should do it before the Assembly elections in Delhi,” he said.

Mr. Goel alleged that the housing scheme for jhuggi dwellers being launched in the name of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was nothing but an eye wash. He called upon the residents of unauthorised colonies to participate in the rally that would be addressed by prominent leaders and social workers.
