M. Mallikarjun Kharge Bangalore: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday warned the Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders that the people would teach them a lesson for resorting to undemocratic method for weaning the Opposition legislators away to swell its ranks in the State. Inaugurating the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and the former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office here, Mr. Kharge said that the ruling party would be responsible if the people launched an agitation against such “unprincipled” practices and took law into their hands. The meeting was attended by the former Ministers D.B. Chandre Gowda and Roshan Baig and M. Ramachandrappa, General Secretary of the KPCC. Mr. Kharge regretted that some parties were preaching the Congress on principles, forgetting that it was his party which fought for freedom and established democracy in the country. He said that these parties were spreading rumours that the Congress was supporting terrorism. It was the former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, who had sacrificed their lives and the Congress lost because of its stand against terrorism, he added. It was under Devaraj Urs and Rajiv Gandhi that the country saw reforms in the panchayat raj sector, information technology and the development of other backward classes, Mr. Kharge added.
