Srikakulam: A three-member Andhra Pradesh Legislative Committee on Scheduled Castes with S. Gangaram as Chairman reviewed the implementation of reservations in Government departments at the ZP conference hall here on Wednesday. The Chairman expressed his displeasure at banks not coming forward to finance SC entrepreneurs for setting up self-employment units, despite Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announcing the scheme. The Chief Minister wanted to help SC entrepreneurs set up 5,000 industrial units in the State with the active cooperation of banks. Despite top-level bank officials assuring Dr. Reddy that they would cooperate in this regard, in practice, the scheme could not be grounded due to doubts over provision of guarantees for the repayment of the loan, Mr. Gangaram said. Pending proposalsIn the district, 90 SC entrepreneurs had come forward to set up industries but local banks were yet to take a view on their proposals. Mr. Gangaram said that he would raise the issue with Dr. Reddy. Mr. Gangaram pulled up officials of certain departments for failing to attend the review meeting despite being given advance notice of the committee’s visit.
