Lop-sided matches

BANGALORE: Qualifying teams played lop-sided contests in Phase II of the Dr. G.S. Randhawa memorial inter-school hockey tournament which began here on Wednesday.

In the first match, Army School beat Rashtriya Military School 7-3 with Sunil (18th, 39th and 48th) being the top-scorer for Army School. Milan Muthappa (4th & 14th), Avinash (25th) and Subbaiah (59th) provided good support.

Rashtriya Military School struck thrice through Sandeep (27th & 30th) and Sambha (34th). Sandeep’s second goal was directed off a penalty corner.

The second match was even more one-sided with ASC School (boys) trouncing Best High School 10-0. K. Srikanth scored four goals (9th, 12th, 17th and 44th) and Santosh Minj slotted three (2nd, 8th and 14th). Manoj (5th), P.S. Guaria (34th) and B. Bengra (36th) completed the tally.

Jindal impresses

Jindal Steel Works, Bellary, is just into its second year in the State ‘A’ division volleyball league. But in an inspiring performance at the Sree Kanteerava outdoor courts here today, the young side outspiked fancied CIL in five hard fought games at 25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-7 with Vinod and Pramod doing the star turn.

For, Jindal this was its first win in three matches having lost to KSP and ASC on the first two days.

KSP kept its winning streak going with 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Sports Authority of India (SAI) while in the day’s other match Sports Hostel, Bangalore downed BEL 29-27, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19 in just under an hour.
