Haryana sets up Deshbandhu Gupta award

CHANDIGARH: An annual state-level award of Rs.1 lakh will be started in the name of a noted freedom fighter, journalist and writer from Haryana, Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, which will be given to a writer for his outstanding performance in the fields of writing on the life and works of Lala Deshbandhu Gupta. This award will be instituted under the auspices of Haryana Sahitya Akademi.

This was announced by the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in a book release function held at Haryana Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday afternoon wherein the Governor of Haryana A.R. Kidwai released two books entitled Shri Lala Deshbandhu Gupta and Sant Kavi Janki Prasad written by Narender Kumar Upmanyu.

Speaking at the function Hooda promised to approach the Centre for introducing a postal stamp in a memory of Lala Deshbandhu Gupta.
