Steps taken to stock more fertilizer

Move to help farmers who take up farming activities in

rain-fed areas

VIRDUHUNAGAR: The Virudhunagar district administration has taken steps to stock an additional 1000 tonnes of Di-ammonium phosphate fertilizer to help farmers who take up farming activities in rain-fed areas.

In a statement, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that a total of 1,460 tonnes of DAP was required for August and already 1,160 tonnes was available.

With the rain intensifying, farmers have begun cultivation of maize, groundnut and cotton in rain-fed areas.

The State Government had been apprised of the requirement and efforts had been taken to get the necessary quantity of fertilizer at hand, he said.

Flying squads were conducting surprise checks at fertilizer retail outlets, the Collector said.

The Collector warned that stringent action would be taken against those who indulged in malpractices.
