Patna: With flood situation turning grim in Bihar, the Army was on Wednesday asked to join the relief operations. More than 800 villages in 11 districts and nearly 6.5 lakh people were affected by the floods, which has claimed 30 lives so far. Standing crops worth Rs.61 lakh and property valued at about Rs.one crore have been damaged, official sources said. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who surveyed the flood-hit districts of the Kosi belt aerially said an Army helicopter would begin dropping food packets from Thursday.
