Chandigarh: Former Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjiv Bansal, who allegedly tried to bribe a High Court Judge with Rs 15 lakh, on Wednesday surrendered before the police here and was remanded to three days in their custody by a local court. Soon after his surrender, Mr. Bansal and a co-accused in the case Nirmal Singh were produced in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Mahesh Kumar who sent both of them to three days’ police remand. ‘Being interrogated’“Bansal is being interrogated” SHO of Sector 11 police station, Ramesh Chander, under whose jurisdiction Mr. Bansal surrendered, said. Two days back, police had issued lookout notices against Mr. Bansal and a Delhi businessman Ravinder Singh, as both of them had failed to turn up and join investigations. Police said Mr. Bansal’s mobile phone call details were being scrutinised to ascertain the persons with whom he was in touch before the alleged crime. Police parties had been sent to Delhi and some other places to trace Mr. Bansal and the businessman. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh police had assured the High Court Chief Justice T S Thakur that the case would be cracked by Thursday. The ‘munshi’, who allegedly delivered the amount to the High Court Judge, was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) a few days ago. The former Additional Advocate General had earlier claimed that his clerk wrongly delivered the money at the residence of the Judge instead of giving it to a realtor as advance for a property deal. -- PTI
