Withdrawal of cases sought
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Condemning the police firing on farmers at Greater Noida on August 13, Janhastakshep has demanded that all cases filed against the farmers by the Uttar Pradesh police be withdrawn. It also demanded immediate release of all the arrested farmers. “The farmers were shot and beaten up by the U.P. police while demanding a higher rate of compensation for their agricultural land that were being acquired by the State Government for infrastructure projects,” said Janhastakshep in a statement.
A fact-finding team of the organisation visited the Ghodi-Bacheda village in Greater Noida on August 14.The team comprising Ish Mishra and Sachin Singh said the root cause of the protest by farmers of eight villages was that their fertile land was acquired by the Greater Noida Authority in 2003. “The land was acquired at a rate of Rs.322 per sq. metre but was now being sold by it at a rate of Rs.10,500 per sq.m.”
