Science expo advocates eco-friendly products

HYDERABAD: ‘Science at Home’, a science exhibition held by Gitanjali Devshala School at Secunderabad on August 11 displayed the use of eco-friendly, economical and hygienic methods in maintaining herbal gardens, kitchens and homes. Various products on display included liquid soap, traditional ice-cream making machine, solar water heater, indigenous coffee filter, soda maker, LPG, burglar alarm and others. Chief guest and director of Biogene Quest Sudha Vani, while appreciating the effort, advised the children to save the environment by lessening the carbon footprints.

Slate- The School

The students of first and second standards from Slate-The School had a very different experience when they were taken to old age homes. Class II students visited the Chandra Rajeshwara Rao Home for the Aged on August 12 while those from Class I were taken to the Little Sisters of Charity Home for the Aged on August 13. The students distributed fruits and new clothes to the senior citizen apart from interacting with them.

Nasr School

Independence Day and the investiture ceremony came together for the Nasr School on August 15. Chief Guest and Commanding Air Officer of Hakimpet Air Force Station Air Commodore Naseem Akhtar administered the oath of office to the new student leaders. Students, later, marched to the tunes of the school band. Prizes, shields and medals were distributed after the flag hoisting. Cultural programmes followed.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School

Students donning the roles of freedom fighters, marched past and cultural programmes signifying the freedom struggle were performed on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School at Jubilee Hills. The occasion also assumed the flavour of Rakhi festival when girl students tied rakhis to boys at the short cultural programme organised by the Prefectorial Board. Principal C. Ramadevi took oath from the students towards improving the green cover and conserving energy and water.

St. George’s Girls’ Grammar School

A colourful investiture ceremony at St. George’s Girls’ Grammar School on King Koti Road saw K. Bhavana taking oath as the School Captain along with 36 other student leaders. Academic prizes were awarded to the meritorious students on the occasion.

P. Obul Reddy Public School

The new student council of Andhra Mahila Sabha- P. Obul Reddy Public School was administered oath of office in the investiture ceremony held on July 5. Head boy, head girl, captains, vice-captains, sports and cultural secretaries and other office bearers were entrusted with responsibilities by the chief guest Dr. Tessy Thomas, the project director of DRDO Hyderabad. Suhit and Pavitra. M. of Class XII were chosen the head boy and head girl respectively. Ms. Thomas later spoke about the developments in Science & Technology in India and encouraged the students to take the scientific temper forward. President of Andhra Mahila Sabha Rajalakshmi Sunkavally was present on the occasion.

Sreenidhi International School

It was investiture time also for Sreenidhi International School which had its newly elected students’ council take a pledge on July 16. Head girl Alexa, head boy Ranga Maitreya, sports captain Vivek, and prefects Abhijeet, Shukoor, Amit, Srikant and the assistant prefects Kruti, Tanvi, Tripura and Aslesha together took the oath and participated in a march past. The ceremony was presided over by Mahi, the chairman of the school and Sarita Mahi, the executive director.
