Bangalore: Using art as a medium to create any sort of consciousness has been a strategy long applied. Now collaborating with artists from Kalamandir and Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat and Ken School of Art, in association with Shri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College – Centre for Management Studies (SBMJC – CMS), environmental non-governmental organisation Sarathi is trying to raise awareness through posters. Launching the day-long workshop here on Wednesday, and attempting to put together an entire network of resources such as their community radio service, “Radio Active”, was Sharat Chandra, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Pollution Board, senior journalist Nagesh Hegde, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat president T. Prabhakara, and Dinesh Nilkant, Principal, SBMJC – CMS, and R. Chenraj Jain, Chairperson, SBJMC – CMS. The audience, present at the workshop, comprising artists from the three art schools heard D.S. Shamantha introduce the work of Sarathi to them. First-time initiativeShamantha also said that this was a first-time initiative where artists were joining hands with the Government for a cause. Each one of the dignitaries spoke about the need for society to have environmental conscience. The 28 participants aged between 20 and 22 were put through a series of lectures about what their work needed to focus on. The work-in-progress will be finally be submitted on August 25 and the three winning entries will be used by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Sarathi in their upcoming environmental campaign.
