Bangalore: A large number of garment workers on Mysore Road joined the all-India strike on Wednesday by taking out a spontaneous rally and holding a public meeting.
Thousands of workers from nine units on Mysore Road walked out of the factories and took out a rally in support of the trade union strike, which is a first for the large workforce of garment industry employees in Bangalore, consisting mostly women working on contract basis.
The meeting was addressed by Jayaram K.R. of the Garment and Textile Workers’ Union, Rukmini of Garment Mahila Karmikara Munnade and workers’ representatives. The workers took an oath not to work on forced overtime.
