Designs approved for metro elevated stations

BANGALORE: Designs for three more swanky metro stations, each having a floor area of over 4,000 square metres, were approved by the Board of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., (BMRCL) at its meeting here on Saturday.

All the three stations will be elevated and come up on Reach 1 (Cricket Stadium to Byappanahalli) of Phase 1 of the Namma Metro.

Among these, Ulsoor and C.M.H. Road stations will be located above the centre of the road while the third will be on the north of the Old Madras Road.

The elevated stations will be two-storeyed, the first floor housing unpaid passenger concourse and passenger amenities, including ticketing area, and the second floor housing 135-metre long two platforms and the paid concourse, said BMRC director (Projects and Planning) B.S. Sudhir Chandra.

Mr. Sudhir Chandra told The Hindu that the stations would house pay and use toilets on the ground floor, away from the staircase, lifts for physically challenged and the elderly, kiosks vending newspapers, snacks and ATM and so on.

Parking space

Among these stations, parking facility for passengers’ vehicles could be made only near the Ulsoor Station, Mr. Sudhir Chandra said.

The hospital property south of the Old Madras Road will be made available for vehicular parking and passengers can reach the station by using the footbridge.

On the other hand, provision for only bus bays could be made at Swami Vivekananda Road and C.M.H. Road Stations. However, BMRCL was planning to request Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to allow underground parking at a college ground owned by it near C.M.H. Road Station.

BMRCL Managing Director N. Sivasailam said construction of these stations would be completed in compliance with the commercial launch of Reach 1, that is, December 2010.
