Mangalore
MANGALORE: Non-teaching employees of Mangalore University staged a protest at Mangalagangotri on Wednesday urging the Government to fulfil their demands. The main demand is granting them University Grants Commission pay scale. The protest was held in response to a call by the All-India University Non-teaching Employees’ Federation. Govinda Matti, president, Mangalore University Non-Teaching Employees’ Association, submitted a memorandum to K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor of the university. The memorandum said that the Government should nominate members of non-teaching staff to decision-making bodies of the university, such as the Academic Council and Syndicate. The university should stop recruiting employees on contract basis and fill vacant posts, it added. The memorandum also said that the university should give priority to the construction of ‘D’ and ‘E’ types of staff quarters on its campus. It should keep a vehicle and a driver on standby on the campus for any emergency. The university should take steps to create new non-teaching posts proportionate to the number of students every year, the memorandum said.
